A Cut and A Council

Peer support-led barbershop hours — a culturally grounded space where men and youth can talk openly while getting a haircut.

Audience: General community, with focus on men and youth
Format: Recurring barbershop hours
A Cut and A Council brings mental health support into the barbershop — a trusted, culturally grounded community space where people, especially men and youth, often open up in ways they wouldn't in a clinical setting. Trained peer supporters are on-site during dedicated hours to listen, share resources, and connect individuals with professional support when needed. The program reduces stigma, normalizes conversations about mental health, and meets people where they already are.

Key Topics Covered

  • Stigma reduction
  • Peer support
  • Community-based mental health
  • Connecting to professional care
  • Culturally grounded outreach
